Santa Barbara Area Surf Report

April Overview 1998 Overview

Date/Time: Sunday, April 19th, 10:00 am - 2:00 pm
Location: Rincon Point
Weather: Sunny and warm with wind in Ventura but calm at the 'con. Water still damn cold.
Conditions: Clean, no chop, windswelly but hollow waves.
Swell: WNW windswell from 290 degrees, 10 ft at 17 s on outer buoys.
Surf: Waist to chest high.
Comments: Checked it early and it wasn't worth going, moved on south to Ventura to find an NSSA competition at Stables, heinous parking situations at the Fairgrounds with some sort of flea market going on, and a lot of wind. Headed back north, pretty bummed, and decided to paddle out at the 'con just to get wet. Who knows, I may not surf here again for 6 months.

A nice day; the beach atop the point has returned while the one in the cove has continued to retreat as the waves sort out the fines and carry all of it downcoast. Hopefully it'll stabilize and stay wide through the summer.

Waves pretty lackluster and frustrating, but got enough to stay warm and mildly stoked, and bumped into some old friends I hadn't seen in a year. A good way to spend a Sunday.
