Nothing happening on the AM check of the indicator, and while
the cove was showing some potential I decided to chance a
run down to the fairgrounds for some more size. Got size but
pretty poor peaky and inconsistent surf. Sets swinging wide
of the normal lineup and mushy on the shoulders, but the
drops were hollow and fun. Took one set on the head and
came up smelling freshly mowed grass... the smell stuck with
me for at least a minute and it took at least a quarter of
that time for me to notice that I really ought not to be
smelling mowed lawns after being pummelled.
A quick run to Carp for some food and I was back on it atop the point at Rincon, the plan being to drift down into the cove to steal some of those nice looking chest to head high rollers from the 30-odd people already out. The occasional good wave in the rivermouth kept me around longer than I intended, wanting a set all the way through, but it just didn't happen. The cove was the place to be today, clean and a bit sectiony way on the inside, but lining up from halfway to the rivermouth nearly to the freeway. Heavy crowd hassling hard for every little ripple, but my belly was warm and full. Time was on my side, patience and perserverance and a lot of conniving paid off with a good sample of waves. Stayed out until I could barely surf, which was nearly the undoing of a couple of guys who loitered in the impact zone a bit too long, me coming down the line and suddenly kooking hard and going right at them. Damn good thing I didn't hit them because it was all my fault. Went in right after that before something really bad happened. |
