Santa Barbara Area Surf Report

August Overview 1998 Overview

Date/Time: Wednesday, August 12th, 5:00 am - 8:00 am
Location: Upper Trestles
Weather: Sunny and warm, no wind.
Conditions: Perfect, a light offshore touch early on glassing off by sunrise.
Swell: Small southern hemi stuff, no buoy readings taken.
Surf: Waist to chest high with head high sets.
Comments: Peaky and fun waves; in San Clemente for a meeting with the City Council about the proposed Rail Trail, providing pro bono analysis of a seawall model for Surfrider San Clemente.

Never surfed here before; the boys tell me the lineup had been pretty impacted by this year's surf and rain, with lots of unusual peaks and sections that broke up the groundswell, or possibly some windswell influence. Borrowed a pretty heavy 8'0" and went to work, got a few cover-ups and beat a bunch of sections to way inside by a fallen tree. Eight of us hitting the lineup at once; hadn't surfed with that many before all going out at once as a group. A great time!
