Santa Barbara Area Surf Report

August Overview 1998 Overview

Date/Time: Sunday, August 16th, 12:00 noon - 2:00 pm
Location: Secos / Arroyo Sequit / Leo Carrillo
Weather: Mostly sunny with building westerly winds.
Conditions: Fair to poor, shifty swell and a bit of chop.
Swell: Hurricane swell from Georgette, 4-5 ft at 10-11 s from the south.
Surf: Waist to chest high with some overhead sets.
Comments: A good reminder of why I try not to surf here on a Sunday; didn't get a single wave without having at least one person dropping in on me and falling down. Tide too high for the mid-sized waves to work on the reefs and the larger waves dominated by longboarders. A few fights in the lineup. I went in early.
