Woke up at 5 am but couldn't motivate. Knew I had to get
on it early before the winds came up, but the will to do
it wasn't there. By the time I got out it was getting
a little rippled up and the grins on the boyz' faces let
me know that they appreciated my sacrifice. Bastards.
Struggled a bit with my first takeoff, went in straight and couldn't turn for some reason. Longboard-itis? Got a few more and hit the groove, including a double-coverup on one wave through to the rivermouth. Had to work hard to crank past all the peaks and bowls, and the crowd was pretty thick for the consistency and conditions. Highlight was probably all the surf-stoked talk about the waves we've had for the past month and last week in particular. Got out pretty early and did some shell-searching amongst the cobble. No beach now; all the sand has either been kicked offshore or shoved into the backyards of homeowners on the point. NWS is calling for gale force E to SE winds in the east channel tomorrow with west swells to 14 ft. Conditions are gonna get a lot worse before they get any better... some savvy travelling will be required to get any surfable waves. Big buoy readings haven't kicked in yet on the offshore buoys; this one may wind up to have more bark than bite. |
