Santa Barbara Area Surf Report

July Overview 1998 Overview

Date/Time: Thursday, July 2nd, 8:00 am
Location: Rincon, Tropics, Signals, Pitas Point
Weather: Cool and breezy out of the southeast.
Conditions: Morning-sick with those winds really chopping up the windswell.
Swell: Strong NW windswell, gales on the outer buoys and 6 ft 6-8 s readings on the inner ones.
Surf: Crumbly and choppy, looking waist to chest high but unsurfable.
Comments: Got as far as Pitas before turning around on the old Highway 1, nothing surfable and things didn't seem to be improving on the way to Ventura. Read later a report calling C Street clean and fun; suppose I guessed wrong. Too bad I didn't know about the new live feed at the time or I could've checked it, seen the conditions, and jetted for the point straight away!
