Santa Barbara Surf Report Archive
June 1998 Overview

A pretty typical June month, mostly southern hemisphere energy which as often as not required the longboard to maximize the stoke factor. We seemed to get a decent swell that would roll in and last for a few days, every couple of weeks.

Highlight of the month was a solid swell at its opening that actually began in May. Went out with SurferBob a few times, starting with the tail end of that swell and by the end of the month he let me try out Mr. Scott.

Lowlight was witnessing a harrowing scene in the rocks at Secos. We also fell victim to the usual suspect of summer swells, our expectations, also known as over-hyped swell, but I still managed to have a good time despite the bad rumours and an ugly skin rash.

Out of ten sessions, got good surf about six times. Rode half the time on the longboard and not at all on the semi-gun. Average wave height was around shoulder high.
