Santa Barbara Area Surf Report

June Overview 1998 Overview

Date/Time: Saturday, June 13th, 3:00 pm - 4:30 pm
Location: Secos / Arroyo Sequit / Leo Carrillo
Weather: Sunny with strong westerly winds.
Conditions: Poor to blown-out. Windsurfers en masse.
Swell: Building out of the SW, 3+ ft at 20 s from 215 degrees around noon.
Surf: Pulsing 5-wave sets, shoulder to head high.
Comments: Not my lucky day today; got a late start as I wasn't really expecting a rideable swell until tomorrow. Arrived and the wind was howling, the sets too setty and the tide too low, making most of the best waves close out. The ones I did get were difficult to surf with the wind giving forceful shoves to the back at critical moments.

Highlight was paddling back out after a good one to see the wind lofting the foam up from just behind the rock and whisking it down the beach in the form of giant soapy bubbles, quite trippy really! Went in early and hung out with Bettye on the beach for awhile to warm up. Hoping for better things tomorrow.
