Santa Barbara Area Surf Report

June Overview 1998 Overview

Date/Time: Monday, June 29th, 10:00 am - 2:00 pm
Location: Malibu
Weather: Early clearing breezes, otherwise sunny and warm. Hot in the valley.
Conditions: Fairly clean, some mild bump but no chop.
Swell: New SSW groundswell, small, 3 ft at 20 s best reading in the AM.
Surf: Inconsistent with waist to chest high waves and head high sets. Very, very crowded.
Comments: A windy, too-low tide scene at the other more northerly breaks this AM, watched a few of them for a while before moving on to Malibu. An overhead set reeling through 1st point got me turning around at the Jack'n'tha'Box and suiting up fast. Light crowds at 2nd and 3rd point with fun, hollow, fast waves, and a thick zoo down around 1st point. Got a few but my 6'6" was no match for the longboard scene and the ridesharing activity.
