Santa Barbara Area Surf Report

May Overview 1998 Overview

Date/Time: Monday, May 11th, 12:00 noon - 3:00 pm
Location: Secos / Arroyo Sequit / Leo Carrillo
Weather: Cloudy with breezy westerlies becoming strong by mid-afternoon.
Conditions: Fair worsening to poor as the afternoon wound on. Starting to close out as the tide began to bottom out.
Swell: Small SW groundswell, 2 ft at 14 s, steep NW windswell not showing here.
Surf: Waist high with fun chest to shoulder high sets.
Comments: Light to moderate crowd sticking mostly to the inside, with four or five of us taking turns at the outer sets. Lined-up waves a bit mushy at first, getting good for about an hour before beginning to wall out as the tide fell away. Probably better in the morning with the tide push.

Continued to get experience on the outer boils which I hadn't really tried to line up on until this summer. An easy takeoff when it works, a little sketchy with the rock looming right there, but the bowl over the body rock got pretty fun a few times. Dumpy on the inside, got a couple to the stairs. Good to rinse out the sinuses after some extended downtime due to illness possibly brought on by my last session back in April.
