Santa Barbara Area Surf Report

November Overview 1998 Overview

Date/Time: Sunday, November 15th, 12:00 noon - 2:30 pm
Location: Rincon
Weather: Simply beautiful, mild, sunny with no wind.
Conditions: Fair. No chop but a lot of wind warble coming from the outer channel.
Swell: Fast fading NW swell with some windswell atop it, 5 ft at 14 s on the outer buoys.
Surf: Knee to waist high with occasional chest high sets.
Comments: Rather anticlimactic after the pounding I took yesterday. Took the longboard down after getting some soft racks set up on the car. Paddled out atop the indicator but rapidly made my way into the cove where the rides were smaller but longer and had some nice shape over the sandbar on the low tide. Plenty of people, including Sam George on a big yellow pointy-nosed bannana-looking board, out contesting the waves on this Sunday afternoon, so it was a bit of work getting anything at all. Good way to stay in shape, though. Highlight was the last wave I got, clear through about 2/3rds of the cove, fast and sectioning past me before I could reach the freeway.
