Santa Barbara Area Surf Report

November Overview 1998 Overview

Date/Time: Thursday, November 27th, 10:00 am - 12:00 noon
Location: Rincon
Weather: Overcast with light breezes.
Conditions: Fair, somewhat burgery with the tide.
Swell: Another overnight peak for a new NW swell, peaking yesterday evening at 20ft at 17-20 s from 300 degrees. Down to 14 feet today.
Surf: Overhead to overhead and a half. Solid surf.
Comments: Never leave good surf. Today was to be our departure day on a 2 1/2 week long Baja run. We wisely opted to delay due to some good swell rolling in right at home and a desire not to get nailed by the classic surf trip curse. Leave good surf behind in the expectation of all-time uncrowded Baja and you're bound to be skunked.

So we punched the clock at Rincon, expecting the worst in terms of crowds. It was actually a surprisingly mellow experience, with relatively few people out in the lineup. Fast waves walling off the indicator and through to the rivermouth.
