Santa Barbara Surf Report Archive
September 1998 Overview

A down month, flat spells punctuated by southern hemmi swells and the fall season opening up at month's end. Overall weak for surfing, with little to no hurricane activity unlike the banner hurricane season of 1997.

Those days I did surf were pretty good. Highlights included 3rd-reef barrels and a good Labor Day swell, as well as watching the Malibu Boardriders Club take some disabled kids into the water for their yearly tandem surfing benefit.

The major lowlight was a knee injury and ding that I should have avoided.

Out of six reports, got good surf three times. Surfed the longboard twice. Average wave height was around shoulder high.
