Santa Barbara Area Surf Report

  April Overview 1999 Overview

Date/Time: Saturday, April 10th, 9:30 am - 11:00 am
Location: El Porto
Weather: Sunny and mild with building onshores.
Conditions: Fair worsening to poor as the winds built.
Swell: NW windswell, 10 ft at 14 s on outer buoys.
Surf: Waist high to shoulder high.
Comments: Mostly closeout peaks. Came all the way down here to meet up with Jose for World Surf Day '99. Fun-looking peaks when we first paddled out, mostly closeouts but hollow. One or two-maneuver waves. Bettye and Mina hung out on the beach while we worked over the scrappy rights and lefts.

Big Wednesday is coming to UCSB's Campbell Hall on Wednesday, April 21st. It's being shown by Isla Vista Surfrider. Tickets are $3 for students and $5 for general admission. All the proceeds (after the cost of reserving the hall) go to the Gaviota Coast Conservancy. This is a great chance to support the Conservancy's efforts towards getting the Gaviota Coast declared as a National Seashore, and if you've ever surfed anywhere from Devereux to the Ranch you know what a great, uncrowded resource we've got here. Please show up!
