Santa Barbara Surf Report Archive
August 1999 Overview

A weak late-summer month, worse than June or July, partially due my absence on a research trip to Germany, during which I missed the only solid southern hemisphere swell. A couple of background southern hemispheres rolled in during the 3 weeks I was here, but there wasn't much punch to them.

Highlights of the month were one wave at Secos that broke like a proper pumping southern hemi, and a whole set of them that appropriately rolled through right at the end of a contest (after the contestants left the water, ha ha). Lastly, while I was in Germany, Steve Lange was kind enough to tide ya over with a surf report of his own.

Out of three reports (not counting Steve's), got good surf once with that solid overhead set. Rode the longboard twice and the shortboard once. Average wave height was about waist high, when I surfed.
