Santa Barbara Area Surf Report

  February Overview 1999 Overview

Date/Time: Sunday, February 14th, 11:30 am - 3:00 pm
Location: Rincon
Weather: Pure sun with no wind building to moderate onshores by mid-afternoon.
Conditions: Good, worsening to blown out by mid-afternoon.
Swell: WNW groundswell, 7 ft at 14 s from 285 on outer buoys.
Surf: Surprisingly good given those moderate buoys. Chest to shoulder high with overhead sets.
Comments: Felt damn good to get back into the water after nearly two weeks of being held down hard by a strep infection. After being out so long, it took a few waves to get my sea legs back. I dealt with it by hanging on the inside of the Indicator and grabbing all the scraps. Within an hour or so I was feeling back to form and moved back atop the point. Got a few fast ones into the Rivermouth and a couple hollow drops between there and the Cove before drifting in to where the real crowds were. Highlight of the session came in there, the last wave, a good set Cove wave to the freeway.
