Santa Barbara Area Surf Report

  February Overview 1999 Overview

Date/Time: Thursday, February 18th, 3:00 pm - 6:30 pm
Location: Rincon
Weather: Light high clouds and southerly breezes.
Conditions: Poor, with southerly wind ripples and chop.
Swell: Slow-fading WNW groundswell, 11 ft at 17 s from 295 deg. New southern hemi energy also evident.
Surf: Waist to chest high with peaks of the biggest sets to overhead.
Comments: A relief after yesterday's debacle despite the poor conditions and mediocre waves. Landed a few really late drops and floaters, but had trouble with the weak shoulders that would look steep but die fast when I tried to crank a top turn. Stayed out too long looking for that one last wave in and settled for a little one in the rivermouth.
