Santa Barbara Area Surf Report

  February Overview 1999 Overview

Date/Time: Saturday, February 27th, 1:00 pm - 3:30 pm
Location: C Street
Weather: Partly cloudy, warm, a very small bit of wind in the afternoon.
Conditions: Glassy until the wind started putting a little ripple on it, overall good.
Swell: Fading NW groundswell and windswell, 7 ft at 14 s on outer buoys.
Surf: Fading through the day, some chest to head high sets earlier but by midafternoon it was pretty much knee to waist high stuff and very inconsistent.
Comments: Unremarkable surf. Longboarded it with SurferBob, who had a 1-day surf pass. Got some fun fast-gliding high trims through the inside section sliding towards the pier. Got out after finding one of the little side fins on my board was cracked and nearly off. How the...? I have no idea when that happened.

Highlight of the day wasn't the waves but the chile relleno burrito w/ pork at Johnny's on North Ventura Ave., post-session, something Will recommended highly. A wonderful creation with no rice or beans to get in the way, just the relleno, pork, and a lotta cheese.
