Santa Barbara Area Surf Report

  July Overview 1999 Overview

Date/Time: Friday, July 9th, 1:00 pm - 5:00 pm
Location: Secos / Arroyo Sequit / Leo Carrillo
Weather: Mostly cloudy skies and humid day clearing out by late afternoon.
Conditions: Fair, sideshore westerlies building.
Swell: Small southern hemi, 2+ ft at 14 s from 195.
Surf: Waist to chest high with shoulder high sets. Very rare larger waves.
Comments: Anticipating longboard waves tomorrow so took the 6'6" down, repaired from the last session's trip into the rock. None of that today though I came very close on a few takeoffs. Sat on the outside reef as the tide shot up like a rocket and waited.

Waited and waited.

Waited some more and got my share of the rare sets that hit the outside reefs and didn't close out. The best one was pushing to overhead, got some really fun vertical snapbacks on it. Most of them were around shoulder high, fun, but with weak shoulders. Fun floaters and knee-torquing rebounds at the end.
