After a few brief pulses in the month before, winter looked to be setting up nicely for November as the good fall 1999 season rolled on. Unfortunately, as Thanksgiving came in the surf shut down and wouldn't pick up again through the rest of the following December and even into January.Surfed a number of different spots this month, all over the county. Not enough good Rincon to suit my own particular tastes, but that would come later. So the highlights this month were elsewhere... a good day here on the Gaviota coast and a pumping session there north of Point Conception which I coincidentally wound up sharing with several friends. Meeting people also made the Rinconapalooza a lot of fun in small but clean longboard surf.
The bummer of the month was a failed rescue of a starving and dehydrated seagull that my wife attempted while I was in the water at Stables. Truly sad.
Of nine reports for the month, got good surf six times, riding the longboard twice. Average wave height was around shoulder high.
