Santa Barbara Area Surf Report

  November Overview 1999 Overview

Date/Time: Sunday, November 21st, 2:00 pm - 5:00 pm
Location: Poles, Campus Point
Weather: Strong westerly winds fading to light air at dusk, clear skies.
Conditions: Fair. Victory at sea outside the shelter of the point.
Swell: Fading NW swell, 6-7 ft at 12-14 s from 300 deg. on outer buoys.
Surf: Waist to chest high.
Comments: Engaged in a long, fruitless search of the Gaviota Coast today with SurferBob, only to find the best and cleanest waves around right in our own backyards. A short dash back home to get our big boards ensued.

Uncrowded waves at Poles lumbering through the kelp and into the half-submerged rocks on a very low tide. Most of the rides were a fun peak followed by a mushy shoulder and lots of kelp bogging, but the occasional wave would go halfway to the old stairs, or even all the way. Those had nice enough shape that a high line could be held all the way through, fast and kelp-free. Fairly consistent and peak crowds were about five or six of us.
