Rocktober! The fall rumbles in with some late-season summer swell and early-season winter juice, and at its best this month they were running at the same time. Typically this is a hit-or-miss month, but for 1999 it was a choice one.Highlight of the month came in the middle of a week-long swell, a session that turned out to be one of the best of the year, riding reeling and uncrowded 1.5x overhead rights in the heart of the L.A. scene. That entire swell was by far the best of the summer, made even better when it comboed with a decent NW swell to make the west-facing beachbreaks all-time.
Lowlight of the month was a really minor ding in my brand-new roundtail thruster, such an easy fix it hardly impacted my session, let alone my entire month.
So, out of eleven sessions (with several double-session reports in there), got good surf nine times (82%). Rode the longboard once. Average wave height was overhead, one of the biggest months, on average, ever!
