A typical summer month, which is to say, better than all the rest of the summer, with several good swells and light crowds. The lulls between swells weren't that bad as it was so good in between. A good lead-in to Rocktober. The highlight of the month would become one of the highlights of my surfing career, a wide-open solid overhead barrel on the first day riding a brand-new 6'6" roundtail thruster, the best wave of an outstanding session. A close second was trying a spot I'd never surfed on the next day, actually surfed several spots using the longboard to link up several waves in one set to go quite far down the line.
Lowlight of the month was the return of fullsuit weather, making it a short warm water season beginning in mid-June. It didn't just get a little cold, but downright chilly! Enough to make me dump my old 3/2 Insulator for a new Elasto.
Out of only six reports, got good surf six times, a very respectable success factor of 100%. Rode the longboard once and a couple of different shortboard thrusters the rest of the time.
