Santa Barbara Surf Report Archive
December 2000

The Overview

Two sessions doth not a month of surf make! Particularly not in late fall! Fortunately it wasn't that bad, as I managed to get in a good Baja trip towards mid-month. Unfortunately I came home from that trip and got pounded with a nasty flu, just as the Christmas swell rolled in, which would turn out to be one of the best of the 2000/2001 winter swell season.

Despite the unreported surf trip and the nasty virus, I got one of my best surfs of the year this month, an epic session at Stables/Pipes on one of those rare sunny, perfect and consistent days. Also had a mediocre session in lackluster Rincon waves at the start of the month.

That's it. Out of two reports, got good surf (all time surf, really) that one time. Only rode the 6'6" -- no longboard, no mini-gun. Average wave height was around shoulder high.
