Very few cars in the parking lot at dawn. Surprising.
Less crowded than a typical weekday, at first.
First wave was the best, well into the cove to just past the second section in front of the whip lady's house, not quite to the playground. Stayed in there for a while looking for a wave to the freeway so I could look for some friends supposedly meeting down by the fire pit. Struggled for at least an hour to get that wave, by which time it was obvious they'd never showed, as they never paddled out. Or perhaps the waves didn't look good from shore; in the cove they certainly didn't look good from the water, shifting this way and that. Ran back up to the indicator and got several more waves past the rivermouth. Had trouble at first adjusting to my wave riding vehicle, the 6'6" squash, after riding the roundtail for the past few weeks. Once I'd adjusted to that, I started losing my arms and eating it on the drops. Fixed that problem by going in to the rivermouth and forcing myself into several bowly situations. Best of those waves covered me up twice before breaking over my back and forcing a swallow or two of seawater down my throat. This isn't one of those polluted surf spots, is it? One last cove wave to the freeway. Well, sort of, it fizzled down by the trail head and I bellied the rest of the way in. Got some good carves, no spinners or el rollos. Overall put in quite a fun session with lots of variety, surfed nearly every peak on the point at least once, plus a belly ride! |
