Santa Barbara Surf Report Archive
January 2000

The Overview

The winter season finally began in earnest this month, but it took all month to work up to it. This January was far off of its traditional peak form established by epic months of surf in 1998 and the previous year.

There were still highlights. The extremely northerly storm track opened up possiblities north of the county line for those who paid close attention to telemetry. The first Rincon session of the new year netted me 5 hours of water time and a lot of good waves, and the last of the month was a lifetime highlight, with solid double overhead surf and ending on the best, biggest, longest, and deepest barrel of my life.

Out of 5 reports, got good surf 4 times. Rode the longboard once and the semi-gun once, with the rest of my sessions on one of the two 6'6" thrusters.
