Comments: First surf of the new year. When is this winter going to begin in earnest? Until it does, maintenance surfs like this on a longboard will have to suffice.

Moved to the inside lineup early after one good one out in front of the free lot. Sat for a half hour or so, suffering a crisis of confidence that there'd be no sets, but then the shoulder high walls began to roll in in sets of 1 or 2. SurferBob complained that every time he paddled inside to get a little one he had to watch me cruise by on a shoulder high wave, so I split a peak with him, he went right, and I went left. Other than that I didn't see many of his waves.

Around midmorning the crowd on my little peak jumped from 3 or 4 up to 10-15. Went in soon after. From the car, Stables and the rivermouth looked like they might be shortboardable, but we both had work to do.
