Santa Barbara Surf Report Archive
March 2000

The Overview

Strong swells this month, but too northerly to light up Southern California like they could have. The result was a series of clean but smallish to fun-sized surf sessions. Lots of time to work on the performance, but everyone had to stow away the big wave gun for next year.

Highlight of the month was a 6-hour session complete with a few barrels through the Cove sandbar section, with the second day of the Clean Water Classic nearly as good. There wasn't really a lowlight other than the generally small (for winter) surf.

Overall, out of 10 reports, got good surf 9 times. You can see why I didn't have any bad sessions to report in the previous paragraph. 9 for 10 is an outstanding success rate, but not enough water time overall. Didn't ride my semi-gun, and only rode the longboard once. Average wave height was just over shoulder high.
