Santa Barbara Area Surf Report

  March Overview 2000 Overview

Date/Time: Friday, March 24th, 6:30 am - 9:30 am
Location: Stables
Weather: Cold morning with light offshores slowly clocking around to westerly onshore with the sunrise.
Conditions: Perfect, worsening to fair with the wind switch.
Swell: WNW groundswell, 10 ft at 17 s on outer buoys, 6 ft at 17 s on inner buoys.
Surf: Inconsistent, shoulder to head high.
Comments: Waves seemed to be landing better down towards C Street, with a lot of the sets swinging wide and not hitting the lineups between the rivermouth and Stables at all. A strange swell. Heard later that Rincon was better, but it looked similar on the drive back -- very crowded, inconsistent.

So, rode the 6'6" roundtail and got some fun drops on the outer lineups, but not very long rides. Took until late morning for me to find the groove and start getting some of the bigger waves that would connect through. Got nothing that went past that wider section where most of the sets were really hitting, but Steve did with his longboard before bailing early to get to work by 9.

Went in through the C Street lineups and got a good drop just outside the pipeline, better than I expected for this lineup. Of course, it quickly turned into a bit of a typical C Street mushburger that rolled in to the stairs.
