Santa Barbara Area Surf Report

  March Overview 2000 Overview

Date/Time: Saturday, March 25th, 1:40 pm - 2:30 pm
Location: Rincon
Weather: Sunny with mild southwesterlies.
Conditions: Fair. A little choppy.
Swell: Combination of wind and groundswells, outer buoys 8 ft at 14 s.
Surf: Surprisingly good considering those buoys. Overhead sets.
Comments: First day of the 4th annual Surfrider Rincon Clean Water Classic. I was on the beach in the early morning, having volunteered to judge the first few heats for the S.B./I.V. chapters. Couldn't believe how good the waves were given yesterday's session. As I arrived a 5-wave set was rolling through, every one of them overhead.

Wasn't sure where this swell was coming from, as the buoys had dropped overnight. Medium-length rides going halfway or so through the cove before closing out, good shape. By the time our group got out there, it was pretty crowded and fewer sets were rolling in. Best wave I got was after the heat was over, all the way through to the call box, a little mushy and slow on the high tide.
