The Overview
The peak of the fall/early winter season for waves landed this
month, setting up lots of optimism for the coming winter season
(followed by the inevitable disappointment). Notably this month
I had my first Rincon session of the season.
That's a bit late, with the first session usually coming in October
and sometimes even September.
Highlights of the month included that session along with a
bit of barrel therapy (barrelpy?) at
Surfer's Point in Ventura. Lowlights included the inevitable
drop-ins by guys on boards way too big for
the conditions and, of course, overhyped
swells as the forecasters had to retool their brains to
predict winter surf after a long flat summer. Also started
feeling my effects of my own poor conditioning,
as too little surfing in general made it nearly impossible for me
to handle the grind of multiple sessions at the noodle-arming
Queen of the Coast.
Out of eight reports, got good surf six times (despite the lowlights
I mentioned the surf was typically pretty good). Rode the longboard
once and didn't ride the semi-gun at all. Average wave height was
around shoulder to head high.
