Santa Barbara Area Surf Report

Date/Time:   Wednesday, November 8th, 7:00 am - 10:00 am

Location:   Pipes / Stables

Weather:   Gritty dry cold with strong offshores, going to warm and glassy by midday.

Conditions:   Perfect.

Swell:   NW ground swell, yesterday's windswell fading overnight, 6-7 ft at 17 s on outer buoys, 3-4 ft at 14-17 s on the inner buoys.

Surf:   Chest to shoulder high with head high sets, inconsistent.

Comments:   Winds wrapping their icy tendrils around my extremities and squeezing as I stumble across the newly-forming sand dunes and paddle out north of the rivermouth. Poked in the eyes hard by the sun's rays on each turn down the line after the takeoff. Surfing for the blind. More crowded but better-shaped, longer lines on the submerged cobble point/reef, and once the sun got out of my eyes managed to make a few turns in the right places.

The Rincon crew must have missed me because all of a sudden I was surrounded by them after a couple hours' worth of surfing. Most of them were good surfers that I was happy to see again after riding down Malibu way all summer, but one of them managed to mess up one of my better waves by dropping in, something this guy in particular is notorious for. Didn't see any of that heinous activity as I checked Rincon on the way back around mid-day; I must have drawn all the snakes south.
