Arranged last night to meet up at Ventura
Point with John Singer. Got there around 7 am or so after making
a brief pit stop for donuts and coffee. It was obviously not
breaking well, with shifty peaks and mixed-up sections, but we
decided to get out there and give it a go.
Overall I had a frustrating session, difficulty getting into any of the waves and the ones I did get almost immediately mushed out into nothing. Taunting me, daring me to even try to generate speed, which I couldn't. Went in early. Surfer Bob swung by the parking lot in his bus, running a little late after taking his daughter to day care. We waited for John to come in and observed that the surf seemed to be improving as the tide began to turn, waves actually peeling and connecting instead of mushing and vanishing. Unfortunately, before John could make it back in or Robert could paddle out, a lady officer in a little golf cart labelled "City of Ventura Police" showed up and started brandishing a ticket pad. We bailed fast, along with at least 10 other cars. Guess there's not really a free parking scene in the pay lot like we thought. |
