| Comments: | A.M. The traditional saturday am session wasn't so traditional. Steve and I opted for the shortboards leaving Unkle to battle it out in the overhead stuff on his 9'11" beast. Waves were best and biggest at first and seemed to get worse and worse as the tide rose. Right when we paddled out some bombs were breaking outside, some well overhead and fast rights. I caught a few bigger sized waves when we were sitting with the outermost group. As the tide rose and the crowds did too we slid downcoast a bit to a smaller less crowded peak that was seeing some chest to shoulder high sets mostly but every now and then a larger one would connect from further up-coast, typically with a stoked surfer on it. One memorable moment was catching a head high wave that closed out so i popped out the back and grabbed my board only to see Unkle taking off and bearing down on me on a much bigger overhead wave with his old log. Thinking he may have been over his head i was prepared for evasive action and deep diving but he managed to pull it off, possibly the biggest wave i've seen Unkle ride. Many people were wondering where everyone was coming from. I think it was from the woodwork. I saw Levin out there but he was too cool to say hello with his Pierpont posse, so "Hi Levin." P.M. The a.m. sesion left me with noodle arms so a nap was in order to prepare for round 2. I didn't wake up till 4:22 though so I just jetted down to Hammonds and went out. The tide was much lower and a beach walk was possible. The waves looked really small and crudy and i wondered what i was doing. However when I got out there I saw that there was plently of bone crushing action happening with yet again some well overhead sets. It was really choppy and a bit disorganized but it was well worth it. I surfed until I couldn't see the rocks anymore and headed in on a small wave that turned me upside down and slammed me on the bottom. | ||
