| Comments: | In the waveless summer I told myself that once we started getting waves this winter i'd surf as long as i'd like at lunch because it' so rare to get waves i could make up all the time in the world by working more when there are no waves. It still never happens so I had to make it a quick one. I was surprised by how much bigger and better the waves were over yesterday. Some really clean waves were coming thru and altough there were still plenty of close-outs, there seemed to me a lot more makeable waves. My favorite was a left that i crunched down grabbing my rail and watched the top pitch over me and then got swallowed. My best psuedo-barrell of the week. No slipping problems today. A little wax helps out a lot. That last storm brought a lot of kelp into the beaches. So if you managed to catch a wave long enough to make it inside, it would usually suck up and crush you in this heaving mass of water, sand and kelp. Then you'd end up fishing around for your board in what felt like 50% water and the rest all kelp and sand. Made paddling back out easier because the kelp would catch in your fingers and give you a web-like stroke. Perfecting my duck dive on this 7'2" beast is pretty fun. There is nothing like the feeling of popping up on a incident free duck dive. However there was one big lip that smacked down in front of me sooner then expected and I didn't get the timing right. Hilarity insued. | ||
