Santa Barbara Area Surf Report

Date/Time:   23 October 2002 13:00-14:30

Location:   Gaviota Coast

Weather:   Overcast

Conditions:   Clean but a little slow.

Swell:   4.3 @ 12s @ 300°

Tide:   4.0 and falling

Surf:   Chest High sets. Clean yet slower then yesterday.

Comments:   The swell has dropped even more, but not as bad as I had expected. There were still plenty of waves out there. I don't think i saw anything overhead today, I'd say the best sets were chest high or so. A little slow and mushy probably cause i went on a higher tide, but some sections would pitch for some barrel attempts.

There was this flock of about a dozen Turkey Vultures hanging on the beach. Big, ugly guys. Kind of a strange sight. Some beaches have warnings for bacterial levels, coud it be from the Turkey Vultures?
