Santa Barbara Area Surf Report

Date/Time:   Thursday, 31 October 2002, 6:00-8:00

Location:   PCH

Weather:   A bit overcast.

Conditions:   Clean with a touch of offshore. High Tide was a bit of a factor.

Swell:   5.8ft @ 14s @ 300°

Tide:   4.8ft at 6:08

Surf:   Much smaller than yesterday. Sets were head high+ but the wait was long and the average wave was shoulder high.

Comments:   I was going to go to Rincon. But i absently drove by the offramp. As I looked at the cove from the 101 there were already 8 guys in the water, and it was only 5:52a.m. So i didn't turn around. I ended up at a reef/point that saw some "bombs" come thru about every 15 minutes or so. The lulls were long, and the crowds started to build. At first it was mostly short-boarders and there was order in the lineup, but then it became hard to compete with the longboarders. I guess I wish i was longboarding cause my wave count woulda been higher. Got a handlful of waves in the 2 hours session and was still trying to get the new board wired in bigger stuff. Must have eaten it 3-4 times just trying to cutback. When I left there must have been 20-25 people in the water. Dolphins visited us.

On the drive up Rincon looked fun but it was tough to spot the water between the bodies.
