Comments:
The 48 hours of wind stopped somtime during the night, so I woke up at 6am and headed to Rincon. I stared at it for a good 15 minutes, trying to make something out of it, but then I turned around and headed north. Check out North Goleta and it too did not look promising. Got to work early and then headed out at 6:00 to try to get some windswell. Parked in IV and walked the path down to sands. I was going out no matter what. Wasn't that crowded but it was just messy windswell junk, but it looked rideable if you were in the right place at the right time.
Ended up having a pretty fun session. The waves would just pop up out of nowhere so it was good for crowd control, since it was fairly peaky and random. Got some really fun workable rights and a couple of out of control lefts. The water stunk as usual but the vibe out there was pretty friendly. I got tar on my board after my first ride, but managed to keep it out of my hair. The waves were so crazy. It turns out that if saw something peaking up outside and scrambled to get it, it was nothing. But if you were just sitting there with no waves in sight, a shoulder high wave would pop up out of nowhere and make you hurry to get in position. This led to many a late takeoff, some successfull and some hilarious. I blew 2 really late takeoffs, where I just got pitched after seeing a wave pop up and swinging around to get on it.
The sunset was pretty glorious, and it was just very relaxing to be out on the water and have no wind.
