Comments:

Talked to Petey, he was off of work and heading south. I couldn't pull that off but later he called and was heading to Mesa. Even later he called and said it was flat. I was almost there by that time so I met him anyway. Right before I got there a set came in out of nowhere and fired right down the line. Pete told me this and we suited.

It was cloudy and cold and no one was out. It didn't look good on the walk, but as were paddling out one of those sets came and fired us up. The big set Pete saw broke right in front of the rock, so we waited there. Dismal conditions, some thigh to waist high ones that often would section out. Then the sun started to set, the wind was spraying off the backside of the waves, and it started to sprinkle. That's when I had the best half hour of shortboarding in months.

This set of sets came, must have been 20 minutes or more of solid waves. Pete and I never saw each other cause we were always on the wave machine, paddling out or riding in. It was loco. A kid came out with us and he was in on the gig too, there were so many waves all 3 of us were never still. I hadn't been on a shortboard in probably a month so I though i'd suck, but I actually could catch waves and turn and not suck. Sunset was an amazing sunburst of colors, it was unreal. It got dark and the lull set it so we took off.
