| Comments: | We knew it would be high tide for the dawn session but we figured we'd meet anyway. The tide was high but there was enough energy in the water to overcome such obstacles. Walked down to what we used to call as kids "pipes" but i hear being called Stables and Fairgrounds these days. Caught some fun ones on the edge of the lineup until the crowd attitude became unbearable. Steve got verbal with one guy and I was snaked by another guy "for the fun of it" according to the snaker. I managed to catch a couple of nice ones that had great shape and length. I managed to somehow catch a big macker outside, only to get drilled on takeoff. Good living. We caught waves and drifted down past no mans land and to "The Point". Here the anger was the same, but the people were 30 years older. Got snaked on the first one I caught. He was inside and spun around, looked at me, and then dropped in on me. He fell after a few feet and almost nailed my board. I fell next to him and asked him if he had something against me. I honestly think he fell on purpose. There were plently of other weird situations out there. Guys on bright yellow boards from inland but most of the old timers I have seen out there since forever weren't around. The guys that were owning it were making up for their absence. A little while later and we saw a giant group of people on the promenade. It looked like they were getting ready for a "paddle out" for a memorial. Some asking around found that to be true, it was for the lady who ran "Sea Stone Adventures", the surf school that was up on PCH until she was kicked out by the homeowners association. That pretty much just capped the weird day for me. Unkle and I finished our circuit by catching waves all the way down to the lower stairs. He got slammed on the beach by some 3' shorebreak and after the foam subsided he was upside down and backwards, protecting his new G&S and sacrificing his body. A strange day of surfing was made up for by a most excellent breakfast at Art's. | ||
