| Comments: | We had quite a bit of weather over the last 48 hours. A lot of wind and then clouds and rain and then some wind again. I thought that the wind would have ruined things for the surfing conditions, but I thought I'd check it out anyway since I'd be landlocked in Denver for the next 3 days. It looked small, real small. But surprisingly the wind had not destroyed it as much as I thought it would have. After chatting with a rather unfriendly surfer in the lot I paddelled out for a little leashless windswell. It turned out to be surprisingly fun. The one good thing about windswell is because of the short period the waves are more frequent. So in an hour lunch session I can actually catch a million waves and get my fill, as opposed to the 17 second swells we get that bring sets every 10-15 minutes. That is about the only thing I can think of that is good about windswell. I guess that and I should just be happy there is anything to surf at all. That said I caught a million waves. Lefts and rights were everywhere and it had more size than I thought. More than once I was swimming for shore for my board after trying to get slotted on a fast left. I had a few fun rights were I could race down the line and try to hit the lip but I was bogging a bit more than desired. I figure I stand too far forward on my board, not far enough back to crank a good turn. That's gotta change. My lefts are improving a bit. Instead of the grab and hold and pray for a barrell I'm actually doing things on the wave. Shocking, I know. Saw a sea lion inside of me. Curious fellow. The water had a very bluish feel to it, and was a bit colder than usual. This winter has been one of the warmest for surfing that I can remember, but this day was a bit colder. I figure the wind was blowing enough to cause some coastal upwelling. I was ok with it. | ||
