| Comments: | I knew yesterday was bigger than today but I figured if I woke up early enough I could still cash in on the craze. I hadn't driven south of Ortega Hill during the weedays for waves because the traffic is so bad so this was my compromise. A couple of guys already out in the pre-dawn hours but the sand was virgin and the waves looked fun. Caught a few fun shoulder high ones off the bat. Clean and fast down the line, was having a great time. Snatched a couple of bigger ones that didn't connect that far for me but were still thrilling. Got more crowded and my rythem got busted for a spell. Then I let myself slide down coast a bit and hung out at the more infrequent peak there. That was where I caught my best wave. A shoulder to head high wave that sucked up and covered me up. My best cover up of the week. I've been thinking of that wave ever since as I walk by my cubicle walls I replay petting the cat as I slid down into the chasm. Stoke. As the city began to awake I could smell brakepads from the Ventura commuters hitting the traffic jam that I've so badly been trying to avoid in my dawn patrols. I thought to myself perhaps I could call this spot BrakeDust as a code name, although I would hardly call it a secret spot. Weather was crazy. Clear up here but many clouds down near Ventura. Looked as if rain was in the channel and down near Ventura. Later in the day, big clouds would roll into Goleta but it would never rain. A lot of afternoon wind made me glad I woke up for the dawn patrol. | ||
