| Comments: | Being the Birthday session and taking the day off i figured I'd hit up Rincon mid-morning. I figured I'd enjoy not having to cram a session in before work and since most people would be at work it would be pretty uncrowded. Well I learned there a lot of unemployed/trustafarian surfers in Santa Barbara so I imagine Rincon has people at any given hour. A warm, warm day that must of had temperatures in the upper 70's. Swell was small and most everybody including me was longboarding. I really should surf Rincon more, but the crowds usually get to me. Today it was mangeable. About a dozen folks in the cove scraping for the occaisional set wave. A few more out an indicator which looked more shortboardable. Some amazing talent at Rincon. At least half the longboarders out there had much style and grace. Of course everybody knew everybody out there so I was the outsider. One women had some super style, knowing where to be on the wave, and how to deftly get her feet where they needed to be to glide her board through different sections. A great site. Also some guy on a Walden like mine only with yellow rails with some serious stink eye and over-agressive paddeling manuevers who wouldn't back down when he saw someone deeper then him coming down the line. I decided today that I need to find what all these guys and gals are doing right such that they just hang around Rincon all day perfecting their moves. There were guys chiling on the beach with beers, guys hanging out in the parking lot. It was like one big hang-out fest where everybody knew everyone and they must do that all day everyday. I need that lifestyle. Back in the parking lot there was a Japanese guy and his girlfriend, no doubt tourists with their rental car and equipement. He was suited up and smoking a cigarette (naturally..they go together) and she was readying the camera equipement. I wanted to bust out some Japanese phrases I've picked up but chickened out. Judging by the Nihon-jin culture, I'm sure this guy was excited to cross the pacific and surf somewhere that's plastered all over the magazines. Hope he wasn't disapointed when he showed up in the cove with his 6"0' CI to see a dozen very experienced Rincon Longboarders dominating. On the drive home their was tow-truck hooking up a Carpenteria Fire Truck that had broken down. Thinking about, I've never seen a broken down Fire Truck. | ||
