Comments:
I check in Goleta at lunch showed the wind already starting up. It didn't look promising but in retrospect that was my best shot. Waited till the afternoon and the wind only got worse. Waited till 6:30 and figured the wind would die down. It was still windy but showing signs of maybe letting up. I parked in the illegal lot near sands to look at it. I only wanted to check it out as an indicator to see if I should bother driving way south or go to Mesaland again. It was mushy and pretty poor looking, I for sure wasn't going out here. However when I got back to my car I had a nice $30 ticket on it courtesy of UCSB. I had only used this lot to check for waves a half a dozen times, and I had never parked there to surf there, and never gotten a ticket. The good news is the ticket lady was really nice. She was apolgetic and said she had no way of revoking it. After talking with her for awhile, I figured if I already had to pay $30, I might as well use the nice parking spot to surf mushy crud.

This was a mistake it would seem. The session was actually fun, I caught quite a few waves and had a few fun rides. Taming the shorter board was still wearing on me but I figured I'd stick with it, because of Justin's encouragement. However, even though I was having a good time learning how to ride this new board, the session was ruined by the surfers of sands. Most people out there were actually quite cool, but it only takes 1 or 2 sour apples to really ruin my day. I'm usually pretty mellow but there was some dude out there with a fullsuit on and booties that was hogging every wave, dropping in on me and others. I let it get to me. Then I dropped in on him on one of the better set waves. In retrospect I don't know what I was thinking, I really let this chump get to me. I should of laughed him off and slid on up the coast and had a better session. But no, I got sucked into the crowd scene. That interaction pretty much ruined any chance of goodness from there, so I caught a few more and wrapped it up.

Driving back on the winding road near the Sleugh (sp?), the sunset was great, and everything seemed so quiet and peacefull. That is what I was searching for, some quiet time with nature at the end of a work day. Going to sands and battling it out with a bunch of students was not the place to find it. Once again, I promise myself, no more sands.
