Comments:   I tried to wake up for a dawn patrol session and head south for the first time in forever. I stood looking at Miramar forever trying to decide if Hammonds would be good. It was chilly and standing there looking at the wind blown waves was not inspiring. So I headed north and figured I'd just get into work early. I decided to head out of Goleta a bit and look at some waves. It looked OK and there was 1 guy out there with a hood and booties, so I went for it.

Holy Cow, this was the coldest I've felt the water all year. I didn't put my booties on since I hadn't worn those since December and my feet were numb. Every wave I had to duck under gave intense ice cream headaches. I was a complete wuss out there, taking waves and bailing cause I couldn't feel my feet. Trying to position my head on duck dives to deflect the brunt of the cold. I headed in after a half hour of flailing and was looking forward to coffee. I ended up talking to the other guy who was out there. He used to live in Goleta but now lives in Grass Valley so he was just surfing his old haunt. He asked how it's been and I said pretty good except for the last few weeks. I'm sure he was stoked just to get wet. And the hood must have helped.
