| Comments: | Kristi and I got up early to do the Orchard to Ocean 10k race in Carpenteria so I missed the dawn patrol down south with unkle. After coming in 6/6 in my age group we got wired on some starbucks and planned out our day. The run took us all the way from the State Beach to The bluffs above Rincon, so I had a pretty good idea there was a fair amount of swell in the water. We charged home and made some lunches and got some beach gear ready and decided instead of just going surfing, we were going to the beach. So we trudged down to Montecito and ludged our gear until we got to a remotely remote place that was offering pretty small waves and enough beach to camp out on. The session was pretty fun. I hadn't been on a longboard in probably a month, so my first turn I tried to make I just ate it. Was too used to the quick response of a shortboard. After a few rides I got back into the groove again that is longboarding... dropping in, stepping to the nose, stepping back, making a cutback, falling. It was a fun time, and although the waves were small they had quite a bit of speed. It was tough to get a long ride, as they seemed to peter out rather quickly. The water seemed much warmer then up above Goleta just a day ago. Not much in the way of sea life, but we didn't hit any rocks. After our session it was chips, salsa, and beer on the beach. Followed by sandwiches, reading the New York Times and passing out. Great day. | ||
