May started out a dismal surfing month for me, coming off of a dismal April. I only surfed twice in the first two weeks but then ramped up towards the end of the month. The first weekend was really fun cause we went to Baja and caught some fun waves before a storm blew in. After was a San Diego session, so truly I did not surf in SB from April 23-May 15, quite a long spell for someone who is supposed to tell the world about surfing in SB. And I felt it from many a heckling email from readers wondering what was going on. I responded well to the criticism and went out 3 days in row before I left for my trip on the 18th. 3 really small sessions, yet worth getting wet for.
After that I headed to DC to visit a friend then met Pops out in Indianapolis for the 87th running of the Indy 500. There were no waves there. I managed to make it out for a small Memorial Day session. The last two days of the month, 30th and 31st, were no doubt the best sessions for me. Although points south were reporting head high fun waves all week, I really didn't see much energy till the end of the week. May had one system in the tropics, Tropical Storm Andres, which I don't think brought any waves.
A mere 9 sessions. 2 on the longboard. 7 on the shortboard. Surfline's May Report is an interesting read too.
