The post work happy hour & hacky-sack session with co-workers on our patio was indeed fun on this Friday afternoon. Waves were still on my mind however so although the sun was nearly down I thought I'd check it out. As I was parking a fellow getting out of the water said it was fun and I should go get some. Without checking it I heeded his words and suited and jaunted on down there. The parking lot was a zoo with surfers and partiers of all types. Quite a rager going on down there.
The fellow was correct, it was indeed fun, with enough windswell induced waves to keep a healthy population of surfers satisfied. The happy hour was still sitting with me a bit, so there was some floundering going on, but everything felt so good. The water was soft and the sound of water rushing when you were paddelling sounded like a George Greenough film.
The waves seemed to be coming out of the NW, you could see them marching down the beach from points West. I was catching some really fun rights, but couldn't quite get a very long one. It seemed I'd drop in, make a bottom turn, straighten out and bail as I was trying to hit the lip. This must have happened that exact same way a half a dozen times. On the lefts I was nearly as useless as I tried to get barrelled with the rail grab.
Soon the sun had long gone down and it was just i and few other fellas. The parking lot suddenly emptied in the matter of minutes. I was pretty well done, my performance wasn't improving any so I headed in. Once in, there were two sherrifs trucks and only mine and a few other surfers car in the lot. Apparently there had been a bit of a disturbance and the sheriff told me, "it probably wasn't you since you look like you just got out of the water, but we're looking for some trouble-makers." After assuring him I was just some harmless surfer punk he seemed to lighten up. Weird.
