Comments:
Had heard earlier in the week to expect some swell from out of the west over the weekend but did not believe it. Sure enough Sunday am Bill checked the buoys and they had doubled and were out of the west, the Pismo cams were showing walls of whitewater. On my way back to town stopped along the Gaviota Coast for a session. May have been wiser to wait till later in the day, but I was glad I ended up hear since apparently at SB spots such as the Leadbetter the conditions were small.
Here the waves were the best I'd seen in the greater SB area in over a month. Long lulls with medium crowds and a high tide. Waves were breaking out just past a rock I usually site and some were making the bend into the cove. Best waves as usual swung wide as opposed to keeping close in. This made it difficult cause guys were clamoring to get deepest and would usually get too far back. Since the wave was mushy they'd stay in the soup forever in order to one day make it to the face and claim there priority on the wave. Wish the lineup had made more sense.
Was having a ball catching long waist high waves that peeled for ever and then jacked up on inside to make fast fun sections in the beachbreak. Controlled my board generally well within the crowds, better board control then I am usually used to. Met a older guy on a red shortboard that chatted it up with everyone, was quite friendly as were most folks in the lineup. Nice to have waves back up here again.
