Comments:
On the way to Pismo for the weekend figured I'd stop along the coast for a quick session. The mornings session at Rincon was so fun I wanted more. Parked and began to suit up without even looking, I had hoped the swell could not drop that quick, and getting wet would be nice. Ended up talking to a surfer for some time, a real friendly guy who lives up in that area. Took the walk and along the way the waves looked small. Small until I saw the guy I had just met pinned to the nose of his board on an inside wave. Pure style, front to back on his board.
Traded waves with my new found friend and a couple of other guys in the lineup. Everyone was extremely friendly and gracious about giving waves. They were small, and the big ones on the outside would end up petering out quickly. The hot ticket was to watch for ones that swung wide, or to catch them more on the inside. I started out with a leash put yanked it after a few waves due to kelp. Caught a few hairball waves in front of the rocks and once almost got swept over them trying to save my board after I wiped out.
The sunset was nice but I didn't stick around long after it, I wanted to find my leash on the beach and get on the road. The air was warm, and the smell conjured up images of good times, a nice chaparral smell of a California long gone. I moved slowly on the walk back, my pulse calmed by the slowness of the waves and the environment. This definitely could be some place I'd like to find a shack to rest by head every night. Changing back at the car I talked some more with my new found friend. Something about my interaction with this guy was very pleasent. He was purely stoked to go out surfing, and to talk to others, a real down to earth, interactive fellow who seems so far removed from my Sands experiences of late. It's nice to meet someone like that at a surf spot, someone who's willing to dialogue with you and not carry an air of "cool surfer guy."
